Abstract

Throughout the 19th and well into the 20th centuries, public laundries in Granada were spaces in which women of the most populous strata would conduct most of their social activity. In this paper, some of the typologies of these buildings —resultant from the optimization of water resources in the city of Granada and defined as urban facilities within the context of ethnographic heritage— are described. Information sourced from archival research enables us to contextualize each of these buildings as they relate to the culture of water, not only in the sense  of their formal and structural elements, but also in relation to their surrounding environments.
